Fumio Fujiwara was given the art name of Taito II Katsushika by his teacher Hokusai Katsushika who was one of the leading Japanese artists of the early 1800s. Hokusai had used the art name of Taito at one point in his career. Taito II was active in the first half of the nineteenth century and his artistic style was very similar to that of his teacher Hokusai. Both men distorted the objects they drew to entertain viewers. For example, birds were given extremely large beaks, large heads, small bodies and pointed wings. The titles of two of Taito II's picture books are shown below.
